Launch Day, and Plans for the Future.
Today the beta version of Mystique launches, the first beta version which I hope you'll check out. I'd love your feedback!
Aside from listening to your feedback and correctly any errata carried over from the BRP current SRD, we have the following changes in mind for future release (while still being focused on keeping the rules lean and simple).
Core Rules Additions
The following rules will be added in a future beta release.
- Vehicle and Chase rules.
- Mini-bestiary including simplified NPC stat blocks.
- Add Artillery listings and description.
- Add additional key weapons such as grenades.
- Grappling rules.
- Improved description of how Shields work when using parry and dodge, and when defending against missile weapons.
- Add more details on Wealth Level, possibly including gear rules inspired by the 24XX RPG.
Optional Rules
The following optional rules will be included in an appendix.
- Rules to make things run closer to Call of Cthulhu 7e (e.g. characteristics as %’s).
- Hit Point Locations (along with a form-fillable character sheet that support it).
- Tactical Miniatures rules. Adds things like overwatch, a replacement for the DEX initiative system, etc. Will include an AI set of rules to play solo vs. the AI or cooperative vs. an AI.
- Ideas of removing the Resistance Table and using another approach to opposed rolls.
- An NPC Reaction Table.
- Psionics.
- Point Based Character Creation for Characteristics.
- Optional house rule that skills over 100% cause a negative modifier to enemy defense rolls.
- If page counts are still reasonable after adding the above, we might possibly add:
- Sanity.
- Fatigue Points.
- More details on Poisons and Hazards.
- Skill Training (to make the Train skill more beneficial).
Layout
The final version will include layout with an index, table of contents, and page number cross-references. I am currently considering an old-school D&D module look and feel for layout, with black-and-white line-art. Another possibility would be a Traveller LBB (little-black-book) digest format, with text that is art-free. It could be that the print versions of these products debut as a Kickstarter.
Also included in the final version will be multiple form-fillable character sheets, and an quick rules reference (possibly as a separate document).
